This morning it came to my attention that no one is blogging. No one I am subscribed to at least. I have been slacking the last few days with little time or imagination. I have many great ideas but need to be in a good frame of mind to write about them. So they sit. In my inbox. Messages to myself. I wish I could be bloggin’ at you with something clever, something witty or hi-lar-ee-ous. But this is what you get folks. A train-of-thought-fill-the-time-slot blog post.

Without my super power frame of mind, I look to others for inspiration. Aaaaand noting. I am left with already-read-its. I guess everyone is slow the last few days. I have no great stories from AK, except the one I already posted. We haven’t done much. Yesterday my cousin’s wife and I took the baby and the boy to the park for some sledding and walking. The sledding was quite fun but extreemly cold. Standing atop a mini-hill and the wind chapped my face. The walk was great; much longer than we anticipated. We probably went 3+ miles and it was NOT flat. Here’s proof.

After that we all drove out to Wasilla to say hi to Sarah. She wasn’t home. Still in Juno I think :-( We went out there to check on their parent’s being-built cabin and played around with the snow mobile. We almost got ourselves into a predicament when the snow mobile decided to quit. It is extremely heaving and dragging it through four feet of snow back to the cover it sits under would have been an undertaking. Luckily, we got it started.

Last night we got back, went in the hot tub and then went to bed. I woke up this morning to no new blogs and I am still not independently wealthy. I’m pissed.

It’s official. I’m in Alaska until Tuesday. ROCK. Today I woke up to blue and sunny skies with the temperature hovering around 28º. Unfortunately the clouds have rolled back in, but I thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine! My morning was spent finishing up two designs for a client and talking briefly with my accountant. I’m hoping my books are okay but I have no idea! Ha. Love that stress.

Not sure what the plan is for tonight. My cousin and I talked about rippin’ up the town but we’ll see :-) Maybe we’ll find our own AK McBabe’s!

In 12 days I fly to Alaska, the great most northern State. I have been to AK twice before; once in the summer of ’06 and again in the fall of ’07. However, I have not been in the winter time. When I went in the fall it was dark most of the day (maybe four hours of daylight from 10 to 2?) and in the 20s. No snow. So to be visiting when it isn’t going to be SUPER dark AND when snow is on the ground … I am very excited! The average temps are highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. Sunrises around 0830 and sets around 1930; a good full day of sunshine!

For five days I will be visiting my cousins. I will get to meet their new baby boy (born back in October) and go to the start of the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage. WHOOP!

Just the other day I was catching up on my news and came across this lovely article on CNN. Blam. What if it blows when I’m in the air?! They claim the volcano will erupt—just a matter of time. Mt. Redoubt stands at 10,197 feet and is located SW of Anchorage. As seen in the map below.

If the winds come in from the south east, Anchorage may be covered in ash! I have Googled and researched and found the Alaska Volcano Observatory. They can be followed on Twitter! I am embedding their Tweets and tomorrow will have an AK or burst eruption watch on the site!

Mt. Saint Helens was smaller than Mt. Redoubt before it erupted, standing at 9,677 feet! Sometimes I am jealous of those who were witness to an eruption that was “the most significant to occur in the contiguous 48 U.S. states (VEI = 5, 0.3 cu mi, 1.2 km3 of material erupted), in terms of power and volume of material released, since the 1915 eruption of California‘s Lassen Peak.” Would it not be an incredible and awesome (true use and meaning of the word) event to see? If no one got hurt, I would wish Mt. Rainer (14,411 feet) to blow. And I wish the same for Mt. Redoubt if I could guarantee my safe arrival in AK and everyone else’s safety!

Mt. Saint Helens
