Friday night ended up being somewhat of a bust. As I blogged, Second City advertised the scripted improv America: All Better. When we got there and the show started, we quickly felt as though we were in the wrong theater. I asked a waitress if it was correct and she said, “Yes, you’re in the right theater. They’re trying out new material for another show and have not yet changed the title.” WTF. We paid $25 each for those tickets only to be lied to and sit there not-very-funny jokes? Wow. We were pissed. I was going to talk to a manager but there were really no people around after the show ended. I will not be going there again.

On a more fun note, I was invited last night by Matt’s girlfriend to go to another friends house for girls night. All of these girls have known Matt since college or their husbands have. It was quite fun. Four of the girls are married, three have kids and then there was Matt’s girlfriend and I. On top of being the youngest person there (by five years) I was also the most inexperienced, interpret how you may. I always find it humorous to be in these types of situations. I am always assumed to be older and more experienced. I was definitely not going to jump into those conversations and shed light on my own experiences or lack there of. However, it was still fun and an enjoyable time to drink wine and eat good cheese!

Today we’re headed to breakfast, not sure where yet and then are undecided about what to do between breakfast and dinner. I found a Brazillian restaurant near by and am going to treat Matt to an excellent meal of feijoada. He loves trying new types of food and I am excited to eat something delicious!

Best part of Chicago so far: BYOB. Apparently it is extremely difficult to get a liquor license here—like 10 year wait. So, most restaurants now allow you to bring your own booze. Yesterday we walked into a Mexican restaurant with a six pack of dos equis. Tonight, we’re going to make our own caipirinhas and bring them with us to the Brazillian place! w00t!

I got in late last night. Holy lights people. I’ve been to big cities before—Houston and Los Angeles being the biggest—but I never flew in at night. Chicago stretches the lengths. Even at thirty thousand feet, you cannot see the end of it! Matt picked me up at the airport, we drove back to his apartment and then walked down to the pub and split a pitcher of Leinenkugel, the true beer of the Midwest.

BTW, Matt’s dating someone. :0) My hope is that 2.0 will come visit Seattle. I would love to get to know him better. *wink* Also, you never know. Matt could have a very good looking friend hoping to settle down with a driven country girl.

Today we are working for a couple hours (which is a secret to my clients because I am on vacation) and then heading to south Chicago to the museum of science. Normally, I hate museums. Too much reading, not enough stuff to do. But when it comes to natural history (the big dino bones), hands on exhibits and learning how and why things work, I’m down. On Monday we’ll be hitting up the Field Museum with the largest T-Rex skeleton in the world!

Tomorrow night we’re going to Second City, the improv comedy club—where the stars of SNL are discovered. Their show right now is called “America: All Better!” with skits such as “Between Barack and a Hard Place” and “No Country For Old White Men.” I’m thinking this will be quit good! They say,

“To those who said that the presidency of Barack Obama would ring the death knell of political comedy, I humbly present this two-hour series of comedic sketches proving what most of us already know: that funny people will find a way to make you laugh regardless of who the president is (or will be, rather).”

I am very excited. I love me some tongue-in-cheek political satire.
